“I was in such a bad place when I first joined The Burnout Fix. I barely slept and my lack of energy made me feel like a failure as a Mum. I could barely get off the sofa, let alone play with my daughter. I gave myself a really hard time because I was feeling so weak and barely getting through the day. I felt absolutely rubbish every day from the moment I woke up. It was like living in a fog and I couldn’t see a way out of it. 

Since then I have lost over 25 lbs. 


Now I know that I wasn’t giving my body the fuel it needed. I was scared to eat fat and I didn’t eat enough protein. No wonder I would spend so much time feeling hungry and craving carbs and sugar! 


I was constantly trying to lose weight but my cravings meant I was binging, especially at night. I was gaining weight very quickly and tried to counteract that with miles of running. On my days off, I’d exercise more and it became a big vicious cycle that only made me feel worse.


Fast forward a few months and I’m a very different Jenny. I thought the biggest thing would be losing weight but it’s so much more than that. I have lost weight but I can’t believe how much progress I have made in other areas. I feel like myself again, which I never believed could ever happen! 


I sleep through the night, which is huge for me. Before The Burnout Fix, I would spend countless nights wide awake at 2 am and snatched a few hours of sleep before the start of my shift (if I was lucky!). I actually feel good in the mornings now because I’ve slept so well and I’m still thinking clearly and am full of energy by the time I leave work.  I needed endless cups of coffee just to get through the day - now I only have one coffee and I don’t need it to be able to function. 


I’ve gone from eating four packets of crisps without even thinking about it to not having ANY cravings or feeling hungry between meals. And the digestive problems that I thought were normal for me are completely gone.

“I WAS RUNNING ON EMPTY - NOT ANYMORE!”

 

Fatigue was a huge problem for me and my lack of energy came to a head during the first lockdown. I didn’t even have the energy for my kids. I also had terrible mood swings (for the first time in my life) and horrendous PMS. 

 

I was at my wit’s end and couldn’t understand why I was feeling like this but from early on, Cath gave me the belief that I could turn things around. Even with two kids and running a business making life stressful and hectic! 

 

I wasn’t sure that food could change my life so much but it truly has. I've gone from crying, feeling exhausted and having no idea what was happening to me to feeling GOOD. I was running on empty - not anymore! 

 

You can’t just take tablets to cover up symptoms - you need to get to the root cause!

 

Getting my head around macros was hard (especially as a fussy eater) but I now have the tools and knowledge to make it feel easy.  Before, I would eat “good” food but it wasn’t balanced. Knowing how to balance my meals has completely turned around my blood sugar issues and so much more. 

I lost over 20lbs in the 16 weeks without feeling restricted at all. 

 

Once you have the mindset sorted, everything is so much simpler. Pretty soon, I didn’t even want sugar. Occasionally I get the odd craving for my beloved brownies but a bit of dark chocolate does the trick. My brain immediately starts to imagine how I’ll feel if I eat sugar and that’s enough.

I had to do something to turn my health around. I was constantly feeling tired, frumpy and lethargic and these have all improved. I decided not to go by scales but by my clothes. I have reduced my belt by 2 notches and can now fit into some clothes I haven’t worn for 2 years, which are two sizes smaller.

I have so much more energy now.  My sleep has improved too, as has what I eat.  No more cravings for junk and sugar.  Sleep is so much better and  I wake up before the alarm clock goes off.  I still need to lose some more weight, but I’m in a much better position to do it.

“Stress and lockdown meant I wasn’t in a good place when I joined The Burnout Fix. I had fallen into unhealthy eating habits and I had put on a stone and a half in just over a year. Fatigue and pain left me crawling up the stairs. I’m only in my early 40’s but I felt like I was in my 70s. I was stuck, with no idea how to change my situation. 

 

I’ve never been good at putting myself first so my biggest hesitation was whether I could commit to putting myself first. Investing time and money into The Burnout Fix meant I had to. As long as I prioritise my sleep, I don’t feel tired or get brain fog. The lockdown weight has gone and more (30lbs in total) and my bloating has disappeared too. 

 

There have been some unexpected bonuses too that I didn’t realise were connected to my other issues. I had really itchy skin at night and after a few weeks, it disappeared. 

 

Not feeling hungry between meals has been a revelation. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t feel hungry and my life revolved around food. When I started to get into balance and stopped needing comfort food, it felt strange (in a good way!). When life has inevitably got stressful, I’m proud that I haven’t slipped back into my old habits. Don’t get me wrong - I still enjoy treats now and again but I don’t crave them like I used to. 

 

Even though I’ve made incredible progress, I’ll go back through The Burnout Fix regularly and I know I’ll learn something new each time. It’s a journey for life, especially when you’re trying to change a mindset that’s been with you for 40+ years but one that is truly life-changing."

“I'm at the end of week 16 now, and I look back and think this program has been one of the best things to happen to me this year.

 

In this world of upheaval it helped me focus on myself for a bit.

 

I wasn't quite sure what I was going to get out of it. I was hoping the constant headaches would stop, the feeling of hungover every morning even though I hadn't been drinking would stop, and the general blah would go away. I told myself it wasn't about the weight, but in reality, losing a few pounds was going to make me feel better. 
 
I ended up getting all of that and more!  I lost over 18lbs, a few inches from most places but it's more about what I gained. I gained a real interest in what Cath has been teaching us. I can't get enough of it. I know I've heard this logic before, but this time it has sunk in and makes sense. It feels like I've found where I'm meant to be! Without realising I've given up sugar (pretty much!) and I don't feel deprived. I don't think I believed Cath at the start when she said you probably don't need snacks most of the time. “FOOD REALLY IS THE SOLUTION”

 

When we first started working together in The Burnout Fix, I was in a really bad place. I wanted to lose weight and restricted myself to 1000-1200 calories per day.  I would do great for a few weeks in terms of losing weight but at the same time, I was horrible to be around, struggled to get up in the morning and survived on coffee just to function. 

 

After a few weeks of that, I would give in to my cravings and start all over again. I felt I wasn’t losing enough weight so I would restrict calories even more. Eventually, I got to the point where I couldn’t restrict my calories any further but I was still stuck in an unsustainable cycle of losing weight and gaining it back. 

 

There’s so much advice that says you need a calorie deficit to lose weight and I had become caught up in that. When you’re exhausted, feeling rubbish, and your hormones are all over the place, this is never going to bring success. I know that now thanks to Cath and I understand why I was so exhausted, bloated, puffy, and craving sweet foods all the time. My gut and hormone balance needed a lot of support - even more so when I started to go through perimenopause during our time together. 

 

I haven’t dieted since joining The Burnout Fix, yet I’ve lost 11 lbs and I know it will continue to steadily go down. I’ve also got zero cravings, much more energy and a flatter stomach (goodbye painful bloat that made me seem pregnant). That’s the difference that good food can make. I never believed that food could be medicine but it really is the solution. The body functions so much better when you look at nutrients rather than calories. 

 

It’s not going to be a quick fix when you’ve been on a low-calorie diet for as long as I was but it’s so much easier to prioritise good food when you don’t want to eat rubbish. But you can still have the odd glass of red wine!”

“No matter what I did, I couldn’t lose any weight. In lockdown, I increased my exercise 7-fold but nothing changed. I thought I was eating healthy, yet I was putting on more weight and was constantly tired. I put it down to being a busy mum who was also juggling full-time work but it was clearly more than that. I knew that what I was doing wasn’t working and I needed another way. 

 

Because I have so much going on in my life, I was overwhelmed by even the thought of changing my habits. But I started with baby steps, which worked perfectly. I could do one thing at a time to figure out what was working (and what wasn’t working). 

 

I didn’t think I would ever not be tired but now I can do things with the kids and for myself without struggling to get through the day. I am much more upbeat now because I’m not tired and miserable. Losing weight was always the biggest goal but I now realise that the other changes are actually the most important part. 

 

As for the weight loss, it’s sustainable and doesn’t cause upheaval to your lifestyle.  But it wasn't just the weight loss, my shape has changed because I realise that I needed to support my muscle mass and I am super happy with where I am at.  I thought it would be more difficult than it was but it’s just little tweaks that add up to much more. It makes a huge difference without massive change. I’m even balancing my family’s meals and they haven’t noticed the little things I’ve snuck in.

“I had recently entered surgical menopause when I joined The Burnout Fix. At first, I felt fine but I quickly noticed that I was putting on weight. I had never struggled with my weight before but I had gained 2 stones and an extra 2-3 inches on my waist and hips. 

 

It plunged me into a cycle of restriction and exercising more. I was barely eating 1000 calories per day and in hindsight, it was part of the problem because I was stuck in fat storage mode. 

 

But I didn’t know that back then so I tried Slimming World and countless other weight loss programmes without success. I couldn’t lose any weight but I seemed to put it on every time I ate. 

 

My weight was only part of the story though. I also had bloating, food sensitivities, severe acid reflux, low mood, no motivation - you name it and I probably had it.

 

Thanks to Cath and The Burnout Fix, I’ve got the old “me” back and my family have me back too. I’m in such a different place now and I never believed this could happen. I really believed that my new normal was how life was going to be forever. 

 

Getting my head around macros was hard at first but I keep it simple with go-to recipes that I love. When you can quickly create a balanced smoothie or pull pre-prepped healthy food out of the fridge, it’s easy to stick to.

I knew a lot about menopause from my research but I needed Cath’s help to join the dots and see changes. “IT’S HARD TO REMEMBER HOW AWFUL I USED TO FEEL”

 

Before I started working with Cath in The Burnout Fix, I was completely exhausted and feeling overwhelmed with everything I had to do each day. I also had horrendous PMS and was nothing short of a nightmare to be around for half of every month. It affected my family and colleagues just as much as me.
